Bedtime Storytime 'Stuffed Animal Sleepover'

This program is for children ages 3-8, accompanied by an adult.  Come join us for our stuffed animal slumber storytime! Children bring a favorite stuffed animal to hear stories and songs about toys and then tuck them in for a sleepover at the library!!  The next day, Friday, April 18 between 2 – 5:30 pm, children come back to pick up their animals and a souvenir of their animal’s experience! (Make sure to bring an animal your child can part with for the night.) REGISTRATION begins Thursday, April 3 for Penfield town or school district residents; Thursday, April 10 for all others.
 


Tales for Tales

This program is for children in grades K-5, and their families.   Children 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
 Did you know that even dogs like to listen to stories? Come read to real live therapy dogs from “Tales for Tails.” Drop-in, no registration required. You will sign up for reading time slots upon arrival.
 


Scrap Art Fun

This program is for children in grades K-5.  Join us and use your creativity to produce a work of art using some recycled items as diverse as seashells, beads, fabric, pinecones, machine parts, game pieces, dried flowers, and more. Presenter Mary Jane Wenner will provide the instruction and inspiration and all the materials. Just bring your imagination! Sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library. Civil War Day at the Penfield Community Center

Join others at the third annual Civil War Day at the Penfield Community Center.   Meet and greet historians, Civil War re-enactors, enthusiasts, and organizations. Attend lectures and demonstrations on a variety of topics including Civil War plants, battlefields, storytelling, and genealogy with librarian, Larry Naukam. The Genesee Storytellers will tell folktales listened to by children during the Civil War. Author Dennis Bielewicz will discuss and sell copies of his book Heroes in the Attic (2012) for $29.95. This Civil War program is co-sponsored by the Penfield Public Library, the Friends of the Penfield Public Library, Penfield Town Historian, the Penfield Recreation Department,  and the Penfield Heritage Association.  No registration required.    
 


Teddy Bear Picnic

CINDERELLA STORYTIME

These company members of the Rochester City Ballet will appear in full costume to read the magical tale of Cinderella, act out some of their roles, and will be available for questions and photos after the reading! The Rochester City Ballet will present Cinderella at Nazareth College Arts Center on May 17th and 18th 2014. Registration begins Friday, April 18, for Penfield town or school district residents; Friday, April 25 for all others.

THREE DIMENSIONAL BOOKBINDING

Laura A. Jackett, an art instructor in several school districts, will teach you how to make four different three dimensional books including a kaleidoscope that opens like a fan or a DNA helix; a flag book that has a series of pages that interweave; a tunnel book that opens like a diorama; and a pop-up book that has parts that move with the action of turning the pages. Choose your favorite Japanese paper for your book covers, try some new intricate folding methods, and glue it all together.  The book you create will make a nice gift for Mother’s and Father’s Day or for graduations and birthdays. Supplies provided by instructor. Sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library. REGISTRATION begins on Friday, April 25 and is limited to 25.
 


MINIATURE HORSES

Accompanied by an adult  Janice Hyde of Never Say Never Stables returns for a special hour exploring the wonderful world of miniature horses! This hands-on program includes petting, brushing, learning about these special animals and a fun craft. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library. REGISTRATION is limited and begins Tuesday, April 29 for Penfield town and school district residents; Tuesday, May 6 for all others.
