ON YOUR MARK, GET SET...READ!

The reading game begins Monday, June 27, and runs through Wednesday, August 3.   You play once a week on:
Mondays, 6:00– 8:00 PM, or
Tuesdays, 2:00 – 4:00 PM, or
Tuesdays, 6:15– 8:15 PM, or
Wednesdays, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM, or
Wednesdays, 3:30– 5:45 PM

To play, you need to contract with the children’s librarians to read at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week (children who are not yet reading can be read to). We fill out the contract when you come to register. Child must be present to register. You will also receive a special reading game bag with our official reading calendar and an “Early Bird” bonus activity card!
 
Every DAY your contract is met, you earn a coupon that can be redeemed for prizes at our prize table. Each week when you come to play the game, you get one roll of the dice to advance on the game board. For each week your contract is met, you earn an extra roll of the dice. You will also earn a raffle ticket to enter our weekly prize drawing. And if you follow the special directions on certain squares, you can earn EVEN MORE raffle tickets. Come in to play each week and pick up an ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, READ bonus activity card. Do the activity each week to earn EXTRA COUPONS!!
 


SUMMER FAMILY STORY TIME

This program is geared for toddler and pre-school children not yet comfortable leaving their parent/caregiver.

Do you love to build with Legos?  Come join other Lego fans for our Library Lego Lab and see what you can dream up! We’ll provide all the Legos, you bring your imagination. For babies ages 0-18 months, accompanied by a caregiver Come play and explore with your baby.  We will have a variety of toys and sensory activities that will help your baby to develop and grow.  A great way to meet other parents/caregivers while having fun with your baby!  Drop-in, no registration required.
 


WILDLIFE EDUCATORS COALITION LIVE ANIMAL SHOW

For children entering grades K-6  Come learn about a diverse variety of animals at this incredible presentation by our friends of Wildlife Educators Coalition. They’ll be bringing along a fire skink- a colorful lizard, a box turtle, a cute and cuddly bunny and even an umbrella cockatoo who is verbal and interactive. You’ll have a chance to see the animals up close as well as time for questions. REGISTRATION begins Friday, June 24 for Penfield town or school district residents; Friday, July 1 for all others.

With Olympic Fencer Iris Zimmermann and the Rochester Fencing Club For children entering grades K – 6  Have you ever wanted to be a swash buckling pirate, dueling musketeer, or a Jedi Knight? Come discover the sport of fencing with World Champion fencer Iris Zimmermann! Learn about the origins of fencing, the history of the Olympics, and see actual gear and three types of swords. You will be inspired and if you are brave enough, you might just get chosen to give it a try. ANIMALYMPICS with author, illustrator Scott Gibala-Broxholm

ON YOUR MARK, GET SET...CELEBRATE WITH BUBBLEMANIA!

FOR READING GAME PARTICIPANTS ONLY, parents and caregivers welcome.   We will celebrate the end of our summer reading program in a grand finale of fun, excitement and laughter with BUBBLE GAMES 2016!
Bubble Man, Doug Rougeux, will entertain us with his amazing soap bubble artistry. Go for the gold in this fantastic, interactive Olympian Game show.
After the show, we will honor our reading game participants by presenting them with special reading certificates.
