Summer Reading for children entering grades K-6

The reading game begins Monday, June 29 and runs through Wednesday, August 5.   You play once a week on:
Mondays, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, or
Tuesdays, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, or
Tuesdays, 6:15 pm – 8:15 pm, or
Wednesdays, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, or
Wednesdays, 3:30 pm – 5:45 pm
To play, you need to contract with the children’s librarians to read at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week (children who are not yet reading can be read to). We fill out the contract when you come to register. Child must be present to register. You will also receive a special reading game bag with our official reading calendar and an “Early Bird” bonus activity card and a special reading game tattoo.
 
Every DAY your contract is met; you earn a coupon that can be redeemed for prizes at our prize table. Each week when you come to play the game, you get one roll of the dice to advance on the game board. For each week your contract is met, you earn an extra roll of the dice. You will also earn a raffle ticket to enter our weekly prize drawing. And if you follow the special directions on certain squares, you can earn EVEN MORE raffle tickets. Come in to play each week and pick up an EVERY HERO HAS A STORY bonus activity card! Do the activity each week to earn EXTRA COUPONS!!

AMAZING MAGIC JOE AND HIS SUPER HERO MAGIC SHOW

Don’t miss his amazing high- energy show which includes lots of audience participation. CAPTIVE LIFEFORMS PRESENTS EXOTIC ANIMALS SHOW

Age Level: 5 yrs. - 12 yrs.

Join us for an incredible live reptile presentation by Scott the Reptile Guy from Captive Life-Forms. He will be bringing a variety of lizards & snakes from around the world including American alligators , a bearded dragon, a Fromosan cobra and Tiny, the 14 ft. albino Burmese python. You’ll have a chance to see the animals up close and even touch them, if you dare!  REGISTRATION begins Friday, June 26 for Penfield town or school district residents, Friday, July 3 for all others.

We will meet in the parking lot to learn, explore and climb on these super-sized construction vehicles. SCRAP ART FUN

For children entering grades 1 – 6  Use your creativity to produce a super work of art using an amazing array of recycled items. Presenter Mary Jane Wenner will provide the instruction and inspiration and all the materials. Just bring your imagination! TALES FOR TAILS

For children ages 4 and up and their families (Children ages 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult)  Did you know that even dogs like to listen to stories? Come read to real live therapy dogs from “Tales for Tails.” (Reading counts toward meeting your contract!) Drop-in, no registration required. You will sign up for reading time slots upon arrival.

THE “HUMAN SPIDER” & “AMERICAN HERO” ARE COMING TO PPL!

Lego fans for our Library Lego Lab and see what you can dream up!
We’ll provide all the Legos, you bring your imagination.
Creations will be photographed then dismantled for our next Lego Lab!

READING GAME CELEBRATION

For Reading Game Participants Only, parents and caregivers welcome   We will celebrate the end of our summer reading program in a grand finale of fun, excitement and laughter. Bubble Man, Doug Rougeux, will entertain us with his amazing soap bubble artistry. Doug creates fantastic sculptures such as the bubble-in-a-bubble, the bubble carousel, giant bubbles, and much, much, much more! After the show, we will honor our reading game participants by
presenting them with special reading certificates and other goodies.
