Reading Power Play: Reading Program (sponsored by the Amerks)

This program runs from October 22, 2014 through January 22, 2015 and is for grades K-12.  For every 3 books you read, you are entitled to enter the county-wide Amerks contest.  Two grand prize winners (one for grades K – 5, the other for grades 6 – 12) will receive: box tickets to the February 22, 2015 Amerks game, a catered dinner in the President’s Lounge at the Blue Cross Arena that evening, and the chance to participate in the ceremonial dropping of the puck! The more you read the more chances you have to win. Look for entry boxes near the children’s room & the young adult area beginning October 20. 
 


Stories 'N' Crafts

For children in grades K-3.  Stories and a theme-related craft for children in kindergarten through third grade will take place Wednesdays, December 3 & 17. REGISTER in person or call 340-8720.


Gingerbread House: Parent & Child Workshop

For children in grades 1-5, child must be accompanied by an adult.   Design and decorate your very own gingerbread house! Participants need to bring: a can of creamy white frosting and a box of graham crackers (Keebler brand original work best). We will provide instruction, all the candy trim, and a sturdy box to transport your creation safely home. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library. REGISTRATION begins Friday, November 21 for Penfield town or school district residents; Friday, November 28 for all others.

For children of all ages and their families.  Come meet one of the Rochester Amerks and their Moose mascot! The player will read a hockey story. There will be a demonstration of hockey uni-forms and equipment, time to ask questions, and an opportunity to get auto-graphs. Each child that attends will be entitled to ONE free voucher to an Amerks game. And we’ll be serving hot chocolate and cookies! REGISTRATION begins Monday, November 24 for Penfield town or school district residents; Monday, December 8 for all others.
 


Bedtime Storytime

For children ages 3-7, accompanied by an adult.   It’s almost winter so let’s get cozy with stories, songs and fingerplays about penguins! Wear your pajamas if you’d like, bring along a favorite stuffed animal, and waddle on over for some penguin fun! Library Lego Lab

Do you love to build with Legos?   Come join other Lego fans for our Library Lego Lab! We’ll provide all the Legos, you bring your imagination. Holiday Treats with Tops Cooking School

Doll's Winter Tea Party

This program is for children in grades K-5.   You and your favorite doll are invited to our “fancy” winter tea party. We’ll enjoy sweet refreshments, make a craft, and talk about our dolls. Please dress up (and your doll too) in your favorite “party clothes” so you’ll be ready to stroll down our red carpet! This program is sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library.

Happy New Year Game Day

 REGISTRATION FOR  STORYTIMES  

Registration for storytimes begins Wednesday, January 7, 2015 for Penfield town or school district residents. Register in person or by telephone at 340-8720. Please note: due to the volume of calls the first day of registration, we may experience phone difficulties.  If possible, it’s best to stop by the library early January 7 to register.  Online registration is not available. Daytime preschool storytimes that began in September will continue through April. There is no need to re-register.   

 BABY “LAP SIT” STORYTIME
Fridays, 10:30 – 10:50 AM
Stories, songs, and finger plays for infants to pre-walkers will run February 13 – March 20, 2015 and April 10 – May 15, 2015.
(No storytime Friday, February 20 & May 8, 2015)

Register separately for each session.

WEE WALKERS PLAYTIME-- New
Fridays, 11:30 AM

A special time for children 12-23 months old and their parents/caregivers will run Fridays, February 6 – April 10. Enjoy some playtime & socialization with your child through activities, songs and rhymes that stimulate your child’s growing mind!
(No playtime Fridays, February 20, March 27 & April 3, 2015)

TERRIFIC TWOS
Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays 9:40 – 10:05 a.m.
A weekly storytime session of stories, songs, and fingerplays for children aged 2 will run the week of January 26—through April 8.
(No storytimes during winter break, February 16th, 17th & 18th and spring break, March 30, 31st and April 1st) Parent or caregiver must attend with the child, sibling may also attend.
 
PRESCHOOL-- New Class
Wednesdays, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.
A weekly storytime of stories, songs, and fingerplays for preschoolers 3, 4, and 5 years old who are able to attend without a parent/caregiver This session will run from January 21 through April 15.
(No storytime during winter break, February 18 and spring break, April 1, 2015)
 
EVENING PRESCHOOL
Tuesdays, 6:45 – 7:15 p.m
.
A weekly storytime of stories, songs, and fingerplays for preschoolers 3, 4, and 5 years old who are able to attend without a parent/caregiver. This session will run from Tuesday, January 20 through April 7.
(No storytime during winter break, February 17 and during spring break, March 31)
 
K – 3 STORIES ‘N’ CRAFTS
Wednesdays 4:15 – 5:15 p.m.
A bi-monthly session of stories and a theme-related craft for children in kindergarten through third grade will run Wednesdays; January 28, February 11 & 25, March 11 & 25 and April 8.
