  movie nightTribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman film series: Fairport native and Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman will be honored in a special series beginning with his 2005 film chronicling the life of Truman Capote, who in 1959 decided to write a book about the murder case of a Kansas family. The film also details Capote's relationship with one of the killers, Perry Smith, who was on death row. Hoffman won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Capote in the film which also stars Catherine Keener, Clifton Collins Jr., and Chris Cooper. Showtime is Monday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of Penfield Public Library. REGISTRATION begins on Monday, September 8.

 LAMPLake Ontario LAMP Program: On Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m.,Kimie Romeo, a project manager with the Center for Environmental Initiatives, will give a quick overview of the Lakewide Action Management Plan (LAMP) for Lake Ontario, toxins in the Niagara River, and the 1972 signing of the First Water Quality Agreement with Canada, leading up to and including the completed remedial projects. In addition, Ms. Romeo will mention future projects and what every citizen can do (from joining volunteer science programs at the Department  of  Environmental Conservation to our local H2O Hero).  Please bring your questions.  Registration begins on September 12.

  Alzheimers AssociationNeighbor Next Door Series: The Alzheimer's Association of Rochester will again offer its popular series of 10 workshops on topics related to Alzheimer's Disease throughout the year. Usually the group will meet on the last Thursday of the month. On Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m., the series begins with "Know the  Ten Warning Signs." Registration begins on September 11.

  /uploadedImages/Penfield/Home/HumanLibrary_250x170.jpgOnce again, Penfield Public Library will be participating in a mini Human Book Library/Human History project in an attempt to dispel human prejudices and stereotypes. Its purpose is to bring people together from all walks of life to celebrate the richness of diversity. To date our panelists include: Njeru Murage, born in Kenya and Associate  Professor of Anthropology,  History, Political Science, and Sociology at Monroe Community College; Robert Willard whose title is PRC Prejudices and Obstacles in the post Chairman Mao Era, MCC psychology professors Susan Thompson and Renee Coleman, Alejandra Molina of the Intercultural Affairs office at Hobart & William Smith College, and Virginia H. Graham, newsletter editor of the Hearing Loss Association of America, Rochester chapter, and a cochlear implant recipient. Bring your questions and be  prepared for an engaging conversation. The program takes place on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. Registration strats on September 12.
