FANTASTIC BEASTS ART CONTEST
2016-09-12
10:00  am

GRADES 6-12   Accepting submissions September 12 — November 14
Hippogriffs, Thestrals, Basilisks, Dragons, Pixies, Centaurs, Merpeople and more! We want to see your fantastic art before the new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out on November 18.

The Rules for Participants:
Artwork can be in any medium (drawings, paintings, digital images, sculpture, etc.).
You may submit up to three works.
Each entry should be your own original creation. Although you may be inspired by pre-existing works, especially from the Harry Potter books and movies, do not copy directly from a third party work or simply make alterations to a third party work.
“Fantastic Beasts” can be based on characters in the Harry Potter books and movies, or they can be original creatures from your own imagination. More than one fantastic beast can be depicted in the artwork.
Submit your original work along with a 3x5 index card listing your name, grade, contact information (phone and email), media, and title of your artwork. If the title does not specify the type of fantastic beast, please list this as well. You may bring in artwork to the Information Desk any time the library is open.

The library will photograph all submissions and the images will be exhibited on a slideshow in the teen area and on
Facebook. Some submissions will be put on exhibit in a locked display case in the Teen Area and on a bulletin board near the circulation desk. The library will strive to protect and secure all submissions, but if participants don’t want their original works in the public area please note this on the index card and we will use only photographs of the artwork for display.
Judges from the library staff will choose 1 winner from grades 6-8 and 1 winner from grades 9-12 based on an overall impression of the work encompassing quality of the artistic design and creativity. Winners will be announced on November 16 and receive $25 gift cards to Regal Theatres in time to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!
After the exhibit, library staff will email participants to let them know when submissions may be picked up (this should be around the last week of November).

If you have questions, please email Teen Librarian Lyla Grills at lyla.grills@libraryweb.org.
