Reading Power Play: Reading Program (sponsored by the Amerks)
2014-10-22

This program runs from October 22, 2014 through January 22, 2015 and is for grades K-12.  For every 3 books you read, you are entitled to enter the county-wide Amerks contest.  Two grand prize winners (one for grades K – 5, the other for grades 6 – 12) will receive: box tickets to the February 22, 2015 Amerks game, a catered dinner in the President’s Lounge at the Blue Cross Arena that evening, and the chance to participate in the ceremonial dropping of the puck! The more you read the more chances you have to win. Look for entry boxes near the children’s room & the young adult area beginning October 20. 
 


TEEN TUESDAY- GAME DAY AND 3D SNOWFLAKE

Age Level: 13 yrs. - 18 yrs.

Grades 9-12  The game systems are set up with popular games. We will also make amazing 3D paper snowflakes!  Registration is not required.
 


HOMESCHOOL BOOK CLUB

Age Level: 12 yrs. - 16 yrs.

This fun book group meets once a month to discuss books by authors who will be at the May 16, 2015 Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival (www.tbflive.org).  This month read Sandry’s Book  (Book 1 in the Circle of Magic series) by Tamora Pierce. Registration is not required.
 


PRACTICE ACT

Age Level: 14 yrs. - 17 yrs.

Grades 10-11   Kaplan administers this free practice test under simulated conditions and emails you a detailed score report. See how you might score on the actual ACT! Bring a number 2 pencil, a calculator, and a drink/snack if you wish. Wear comfortable clothing. Registration is required and begins December 12.
 


MAGIC MONDAY-PLAY MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Age Level: 12 yrs. - 18 yrs.

Grades 6-12  Fans of the game meet up once a month to play the game and trade cards. A booster pack raffle will take place and there will be free snacks, too! Registration is not required.  


TEEN TUESDAY MOVIE MATINEE

Age Level: 13 yrs. - 18 yrs.

Grades 9-12  Bring your friends and enjoy a movie and free popcorn. Movie title is The Maze Runner (20th Century Fox, 2014, Rated PG-13, 113 minutes). When Thomas wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape. Based upon the best-selling novel by James Dashner. Registration is not required.   


TOPS COOKING SCHOOL PRESENTS “AFTER SCHOOL SNACKS”

Grades 6-12  The pros from Tops are coming to help you make some delicious and nutritious treats perfect for after school snacking. Registration is required and begins January 5. 


TEEN TUESDAY- SCARF DYEING

The game systems will be set up with popular games.  This week’s craft is Scarf Dyeing! Come right on time for the craft, as supplies are limited to the first 10 participants. Registration is not required.

VALENTINE CRAFTS

Join Amy Raimy and Barbara Brachfeld from Close to My Heart for Valentine’s Day crafts.  Create a Valentine Box card, bookmark, and treat bag for your loved ones! Learn crafty creations in a relaxed atmosphere. Bring your favorite 2-sided tape runner, mini glue dots, and small sharp scissors. Supplies may be purchased from Michael’s, JoAnn’s, or Hobby Lobby. Registration is open to ages 10 and up and begins on Friday, January 16.
