Penfield Public Library Hosts Spring Into Arts Celebration

AuthorThe signature event for the “Spring Into Arts”celebration is the community-wide collaborative with Writers & Books titled “Rochester Reads.” The Penfield Public Library event will be held on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 pm.

The library welcomes visiting author Rene Denfeld, who will discuss her latest book, a novel entitled The Enchanted (Harper, 2014). Denfeld is by profession a death penalty investigator who works with men and women facing execution. Her previous works were all non-fiction including: All God’s Children, The New Victorians, and The Head Will Fall. The narrator explores an unexpected enchanted world: a death row in an ancient stone prison viewed through the eyes of a death row inmate, who finds escape in his books and in re-imagining life around him. The female investigator searches for buried information from prisoners’ pasts that can save those soon-to-be-executed. Digging into the background of a killer named York, she uncovers wrenching truths that challenge familiar notions of victim and criminal, innocence and guilt, and reveals shocking secrets of her own.

The author’s book will be available for purchase and signing later at a reception around the library fireplace. This event is co-sponsored by the Gift & Memorial Fund of the Penfield Public Library and the Friends of Penfield Public Library.

Please register for your favorite programs by calling (585) 340-8720, go online, or visit the library.
