The Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library is an incorporated, not-for-profit public charity whose mission is to raise funds & provide programming in support of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County and the Rochester Public Library. The Friends & Foundation's primary goals are to raise public & private funds to ensure the Library's security, enhance marketing & public relations services and provide timely & innovative programming encouraging interest in the Library and enriching our cultural community.
Contributions augment public support and are used to expand library collections, programs and services; to support capital improvements of library facilities; to support professional resources, services and staff; and support various programming initiatives at the Central Library. Funds are also raised to demonstrate the viability of innovative projects for which public funds may subsequently be budgeted.
The Friends & Foundation of the RPL raises funds through (1) gifts to an annual fundraising campaign, (2) special project grants from corporations, individuals, charitable foundations and government funding sources, (3) earnings generated by a permanent endowment fund, (4) individual gifts made through wills and trusts, and (5) income from the sale of books and library related items through the Library Store both on-line and at the store.
