Making Felt Birds November 19 from 1-3

Brighten up the holidays for members of the community who often cannot leave their place of residents. Every year the Central Library’s Outreach department assembles gift bags for members of the community that they service in their homes or nursing homes. This year we would like to include the gift of a decorative felt bird that patrons can use to decorate their home or tree for the holiday season.

We have 65 "shut in” patrons living in their homes or various residential facilities. We give each an individualized gift bag for the holidays. Many of them comment that the bag they receive from us is the only gift they may receive for the holiday. Outreach Services' goal is to bring the library to the non-traditional or under-served patron through programs and services. Whether patrons are in their homes, senior housing, rehabilitation centers or county correctional facilities, Outreach Services brings the library experience and resources to the community. For more information, please call the Arts Division at 585-428-8380 or click here
If you can't make it to the class and want to make them at home, see below are instructions for the three of them. Please turn them in by December 20.

About Craft it Forward and Frequently Asked Questions
Craft it Forward @ the Library is a series of programs where participants create hand-made
items that are donated to local charities, agencies, and organizations to benefit our community.

Q. Who can participate?
A. Anyone and everyone! The programs hosted by the library are free and open to the public
(though we ask for advanced registration so we know how many crafters to expect).
And because the collection period is open, even folks who can't make it to the library program
are welcome to craft when they can and drop items off to us when it is convenient.

Q. How often will you have these programs?
A. We are aiming for three projects/programs in 2017.

Previous Craft it Forward Programs
The first program done for Craft it Forward, library patrons donated their
time to crochet and sew felt catnip toys for cats in shelters.

Library patrons donated their time to sew pillows and paint plaques
for cancer patients that were donated to Wilmot Cancer Institute

These blankets were made by library patrons for Willow Domestic Violence Center
