Alzheiner's Basic Class

If you know someone suffering from the effects of Alzheimer's, or if you were recently diagnosed yourself, you don't want to miss this class. Professionals will discuss the basics for dealing with and assisting someone who has Alzheimer's. You'll gain the valuable support and information you need.  

Babysitter's Training Course

This interactive class teaches participants the role and responsibilities of a babysitter and includes skills in: accident prevention, basic first aid, emergency recognition, and caring for infants and toddlers. Please bring a bagged lunch and beverage for the break. Students will receive a certificate of completion and a book bag or mini back pack. Registration is limited to 15 students. Ages 11 and up. Cost: $55, payable via cash/check/charge at the class.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

In keeping with the theme of “Building a Better World,” Shelia Sloan, construction manager for Flower City Habitat for Humanity, will discuss this ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard and poverty housing in Rochester. FCHH, founded in 1984 by Roger and Barbara Cross as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has helped 221 families with decent affordable housing by building or remodeling homes throughout the city of Rochester. Each year nearly 3,000 people volunteer to help build houses under the expert supervision of professional construction supervisors, who teach unskilled volunteers five days a week. Learn all that is involved in this amazing project.  REGISTRATION begins on Thursday, July 13.

Exploration Stations are back, co-hosted by WXXI & Central Library! Join us for Fairy Tale STEAM programs.  This series features classic fairy tales with a twist. The kids help fairy tale characters solve problems through hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities. Come to the Children’s Center to play and learn with Anansi the Spider, The Little Red Hen, Abiyoyo, Chicken Little, and the Blind Men and the Elephant. Featuring WXXI & PBS KIDS resources, this free, drop-in series takes place from 11am to 4pm on consecutive Thursdays this summer. All material will be supplied, while they last. This program is open to families with children ages 4 to 12 and will occur on July 27, and August 3. Please call the Children’s Center at 428-8150 for more information.
