Donate Now

It's time to renew! The Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library has announced the kickoff of the public phase of its $1.4 million capital campaign to renovate and restore the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County. On June 22nd, 2016 Mayor Warren, County Executive Dinolfo, Senator Robach, Library Director Patty Uttaro, FC2C Chair Sharon Salluzzo and philanthropist Eileen Riedman helped us smash a wall to begin construction, as we renovate, restore and rejuvenate beautiful Harold Hacker Hall in the historic Rundel Memorial Building.

 The Need for the Campaign

The Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County has been a community jewel for more than 100 years. To continue fulfilling its mission to provide open access to information in a welcoming communal space, the Central Library of today and tomorrow must constantly rethink how its physical space best serves the ever-changing needs of our patrons. While preserving and restoring the beauty of the original Rundel Memorial Building and its interior décor is a priority, with your help we will also expand areas within the Central Library, reintroducing
the public to some of the gems of the collection, while opening up existing spaces for collaborations and much greater use of current and cutting edge technology for patrons.

The Goal of the Campaign

The Central Library has embarked upon an ambitious five-year plan to renovate, rejuvenate and redefine much current Library space into a vibrant community center for learning and digital content discovery, along with professional and personal exploration.

The capital campaign, From Collections To Community, has a goal of $3.5 million, shared among the City of Rochester, the County of Monroe and private donations and bequests raised by the Friends & Foundations of the Rochester Public Library. Our share is more than one-third – we aim to raise $1.4 million to support all phases of capital renovation, with special attention to acquiring new equipment and technology. To reach this goal, we turn to you, our most loyal and dedicated Library lovers.

Pledges of support may be paid over four years to help us reach our goal of transforming our beloved Central Library.
