Rochester Images:

All images in Rochester Images may be saved or printed for personal use free of charge.  The online images are medium-resolution JPEGs. Some users will have need of publication quality, high-resolution images and this ordering information is found here. Please allow 10 DAYS from the time we receive your order for its completion. We cannot provide rush order service due to limited staffing. All orders will be filled in the order received. 

 

What high-resolution images can I order? 

You can order any images in this database EXCEPT FOR images from the Albert R. Stone Collection (These image numbers start with the prefix "SCT".) Please see the Rochester Museum & Science Center page in the Partners section of this website for more information on using Albert R. Stone Negative Collection images.

How do I order images? 

To order high-resolution images from Rochester Images, first go to the Order Form page and fill out the HTML order form. You will need the Title and Image Number of the images both of which are included in the catalog record. See an example of a catalog record with the Title and Image Number highlighted. Then, print out the completed form and mail it along with a check or money order for the total cost of your images payable to Rochester Public Library:

What about walk-in orders? 

There are order forms available at the Local History Division reference desk, and the staff can help you place your order. However, as there is no rush service and they cannot accept payment and requests are filled in the order received, your order will not be filled any faster than if sent in the mail.

How soon will my images arrive? I have a tight deadline. What is the quickest way to get photographs sent to me? 

Orders can be sent most promptly if the Library's order from is filled out carefully and the correct amount of money is sent. Requests are filled in the order received. Please allow 10 DAYS from the time we receive your order. We cannot provide rush order service due to limited staffing. All images will be on CD's and sent via U.S. Mail. 

How much do images cost? 

For order sent anywhere in North America, the first three (3) images cost $15.00, plus $3.00 per each additional image. For orders sent outside North America, the first three (3) images cost $30.00, plus $3.00 per each additional image. Shipping and handling charges are included in the base price of the images. Order place from or sent to New York State must add eight percent (8%) sales tax. If you are tax exempt, please provide your tax exempt number.

What is the quality of the high-resolution images? 

The images were scanned as 24-bit color JPEGs or TIFFs and are of high quality. For greatly enlarged images to be used as wall hangings, the library cannot predict the outcome. Please note that some original images are very small so extreme enlargement may create a grainy effect.

Can I order online? 

No, only by mail. Payment by check or money order must accompany the order.

Can you accept credit card orders? 

No, not at this time.

Can you send an invoice for orders? 

No, not at this time.

Life Records:

If you would like to order a copy of the newspaper article for a particular name, you may have a scanned copy sent to you via e-mail, or a paper copy sent via standard mail. You may request a maximum of three records per day, at $15.00 per record. Allow up to seven days for your request to be processed. Go to www3.libraryweb.org/liferecords to search for records.

How much does an article cost? 

Each article you purchase will cost $15.00. For that amount, you will receive a scan or photocopy of the article as it appeared in the newspaper. At this time, we cannot take payment by credit card for this database.

How do I order an article? 

Go to the Newpaper Index Order Form and fill out the HTML order form. You will need the subject, title and citation of the article as listed in the index (click here for an example). You will be limited to a maximum of three (3) articles per form. Print out the completed form and mail it, along with a check or money order for the total cost of your articles, to:
